Located in the heart of downtown Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Spectrum Record Lounge is a one-of-a-kind record store and bar with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. In an attempt to capture the essence of Spectrum Record Lounge, I created a poster that reflected what the business stands for.
The Design Process
As I began this project, my primary goal was to craft a poster that told a story, one that encapsulated the atmosphere of Spectrum Record Lounge. I envisioned a poster that not only showcased the vinyl records they had on sale but also offered a glimpse into the cozy, community-driven atmosphere that makes this place so special.
Comic Book Style
To bring this vision to life, I opted for a fun, lighthearted comic book style design. I thought that a comic book style panel design would allow me to showcase different aspects of the lounge while keeping that fun and welcoming environment that you feel when you enter.
The Panels
The poster is divided into two distinct panels. The first panel, a larger rectangular split into two sections, showcases stacks of vinyl records ready to be perused. In the second section, there is a woman lounging in a comfortable chair. With a bottle of beer in her hands, she personifies the laid-back, immersive experience Spectrum offers, where music, drinks, and relaxation coexist seamlessly.
The final section, underneath the first panel, features the two owners of Spectrum Record Lounge. They stand together behind the bar, ready to welcome visitors into the lounge. Their presence shows the warm and communal atmosphere of the lounge where both regulars and newcomers are welcome to come browse records, grab a drink, and connect with people.
